update phat 60gb 3.15 OFW to 3.55 (broken BD drive) help?

I've got a phat 60gb ps3 with 3.15 on it and i want to update it to 3.55 OFW so then i can make a CFW 3.55 for it, but i don't where to start, i've been searching and read about lots of users bricking and getting stuck at 40%!...

It won't take the OFW update, but you can use the MFW Tool to make your own CFW that will bypass the BluRay check. There is no need to update to OFW first. Check this thread: http://www.ps3news.com/forums/ps3-cf...ed-118864.html
