I've been looking around but haven't really been able to find what exactly you can do with it.

Same things as on a pc? Firefox and things like that?

The linux versions for PS3 can perform all the same basic tasks as the PC version. Where you start to run into problems is with processor/memory intensive apps (3d modeling etc) and some apps which have been written using non-standard methods.
