    Good idea above i will try greesing the rails wen i next open it up!

    Cleaning the lens doesnt help tho! :-(

    Have you checked that the anti-static solder bridge is removed correctly? Make sure you remove any flux left over on the contacts.

    Best practice when stripping a DVDROM - always clean and grease the mechanism as dirt and lack of lubricant can contribute to early laser wear.

    Get some silicon grease off ebay for about 3-4 quid. Worth every penny..
