PS3 without blu-ray drive?

Hi. Got a query here too. Bought a PS3 with no blu ray drive to jailbreak (don't worry, it was only £20 so no huge loss if it was a mistake!).

Now, I don't have the original logic board, but I was wondering if it would start working even with a blu-ray drive with an unmatched board?

60gb PAL model using Maximus 1.2 PIC if it helps.
