PS3 RSOD on startup, need removal help?

hey everyone i ran into a problem a few days ago. Well a ps3 i got i had to take apart and fix which wasn't a problem. Well i started it up and realized it has been previously modded. well after attempting to play a downloaded game (which didn't work out as planned) there was a program on the system which i'm not sure what it was but i clicked it. well the ps3 restarted then the screen appeared after the logo and wont go away. i'm thinking it was a firmware problem but not sure step to fix it. any ideas?
