[UnAnswered] PS3 backwards compatability and memcard (and/or other) exploits?

I was thinking, with $ony's announcement of the redesigned PS3 w/o backwards compatability, whether that was a tactical move to circumvent exploits such as that using PS1 games and memcards on the PS2. Although, there's a news article on this site comparing the different models, stating that backwards compatability was only for PS2 games. Thoughts/comments?

It's more than likely a tactical strategy for "this system was good then" -- "NOW we are even better with firmware 2.9990231323123.9B, cause we added PS2 emulation." So why wouldn't you by it when the price is $10.17 cheaper than it was before you could play PS2.
