    Yeah so take the hdd out then, and format it on your PC as NTFS. Then put back in PS3 and try updating again.

    I did everything you said took the hdd out off the ps3 put it on my pc, formatted it ntfs put it back in it booted to safe mode I told it to restore the system and it gave me the same as before "need to restore system" update data not found. It seems like as soon as it tries to read the flash drive it gives up and says it aint there. Frustration factor is very high and drop kicking boots have been located in the closet. please save the playstation.

    it was a hardrive upgrade yes ? if so try putting old hardrive back in and see if it boots.

    No he bought it that way at a garage sale.

    Well i am sorry that didn't fix it. Not sure if racer0018 could fix it for you, or like you say get your boots on

    only other thing i could think of is try getting another download of the fw from somewhere else in case its the download.

    and maybe a different pen drive.

    Well, thanks it will have to be then. I appreciate all the input and support. I guess that there are some things that you just can't fix. It's just I hate it when that happens. Thanks again. Bye for now.
