Previous PS3 save on a new game help?

Hello. I obtained a Mass Effect 2 backup. I played the game for a while. I decided to remove my jailbreak and update my PS3 to the latest firmware. If I buy a Mass Effect 2 original game now, will I be able to continue with my saved progress?

If yes, does the original game have to be the same Region as the backup that was used?

To answer your question if the Save game data is still there then yes you be able to use it. As far as the same region, I am not sure never tried it.
