    My PS3 is at 1.51, and that is what firmware version it will stay until it is fully unlocked. I don't play online or use the PSN store. I am quite happy to play the older games that only need 1.51 firmware.

    If you are on the lower than 2.3 you cant go to PSstore even you use bypass firmware method. coz the new FW edit the link of PSstore to the new one.
