Jailbroken PS3 Game Updates/Online help?

I installed my patched pkg file for the game and i transferred everything under the USRDIR directory except the EBOOT.BIN file. I pressed x on the game and it brought me to an update for the game so i installed it and it gave me an error. It returned me to the xmb and the shortcut for the game was gone however the game data was still there.

I tried again and disabled internet access and the game worked perfectly. If this is the going to be the case with all games i will never be able to play online. Is there any work around or something that i missed?

no, updates will overwrite your modified files and can't be used.
