help newbie to PS3 hacking?

hi all, i am new to the ps3 scene and playing backups. i got my ps break the other day and i am using OM 1.6 all seems to be going ok but i see all over the forums and on readme stuff like PSGroove, Hermes v4B payload and stuff like that.

can someone please tell me what these toolz are and do i need them or give me a link where i can read about them or a guide please?

Here you go... it will take a lot of reading to get into the swing of things, so give it a few hours minimum and then if you have a specific question post it in this section for more help.
