    I'm going to get a 1TB Terabyte Portable External Hard Drive USB 2.0 wd. Will it work with backups?

    Yes it will work, but you will have to format it to fat32.

    Also, if you want to split the drive in half. You can do that too. Just the PS3 will only read the FAT32 partition. The limitation to FAT32 is that you can only have a 4 gig file (technically 1 byte short of 4 gigs) as your max file size.
