Deleted user restore on PS3

My son deleted his "user' on his PS3, which now he has lost his game saves, I think? Is there any way to restore his "user" name?

Sorry if posted in wrong area, just a dad w/ a upset son.

Unless he backed it up on a USB Stick, or something else, I don't think he'll get his saves back. But if he backed up his entire HDD while he still had his saves, I think you could try restoring it from the System Settings menu and see if that works. I've never tried this so do it at your own risk.
