China PS3 Controller clone problems?

The Black or White clone PS3 Sixaxis/Dual Shock controllers being sold on places like EBay do not work the same as a 'real' one with some games.

I bought 4 (2 White, 2 Black) from two different sellers and none of them will reset PAIN by pressing R1
(The two stock Sixaxis controllers I also have work just fine)

Is there a way to update the firmware on a clone controller?

I'm afraid most probably not and even if yes would hardly get hold of it in a first place. Also - Sony is gradually locking out all unlicensed controllers one by one so if you're not already on 3.50 FW you might find out that after update your cloned controllers might stop working completely.
