I have hooked my PS3 through my PC using Nero MediaHome. I've used trial and error methods and while I haven't gotten a 100% knowledge of it yet, I have managed to play some .avi files over the network.
My question comes from the next part. In preparing myself to buy a 500 gig external and using it for all my movies, I decided to use a flash stick first to make sure it will work. I copied a movie over that worked over Nero, and it said that it was unsupported. What am I doing wrong?
I'm sure it's something that I'm just overlooking. Thanks in advance for looking at my problem.
The thing is, that I've got the files playing over the network. So they play on the PS3. Just not on the flash stick.
I have read on a couple sites this morning talking about external HDD having to be formatted in FAT32. Would this have something to do why it won't play on the flash stick, but it will play over a network?
Note - The DivX, XviD & VC-1 (.WMV) only work if you're on v2.10 or more.
Checking your video's codec: (Sent in by mick)
If you are unsure about what your video' codec is download gspot. GSpot is a program which checks your video's codec. You don't even need to install anything, and it's very easy to use.
I hope that this cleared some issues and questions that people might have had.
Does this mean that we can just simply rip blu-rays and wack them straight on the ps3 hdd without any conversion (using a streaming program), because I cant do this with any of the streaming programs (nero, wmp11, vmc, ect....). Has anyone been successful with this method? Or are we going to have to convert the blu-rays and lose quality? If we do have to convert, what is the best method people have been using to convert and move the movie file onto the ps3? I dont really want to have a blu-ray split up into segments on a ext hdd (fat32).
