A quick HDD question

First of all id like to say sorry if ive been lazy or missed something...

But i have a quick question about replacing my ps3 HDD.

i understand that for replacing the internal HDD i need a 2.5inch SATA hdd.

But what i need to know is what specs it HAS to be, and is it as straight forward as replacing. Or does anything need to be done to the new drive before its replaced.

I don't think anything special needs to be done. It just has to be a laptop hard drive, essentially, with SATA connection.

It looks to be as simple as unscrewing the old PS3 hard drive, taking it out of the slot, and putting the new one in. Easy as replacing a laptop hard drive.

Seagates are good reliable hdds.

u don't have to use laptop 2.5 hdd, you can use desktop 3.5 hdd (cheaper & more storage) with an enclosure and set it right beside the ps3.

Yes, I would have stated the above as well but since he said he wanted to replace the hard drive, I assumed he was only after that. However, if you are interested in just adding more space and don't plan on moving the PS3 much, an external hard drive is a less expensive and probably even better use of your money since you can get larger storage that way.

Pretty much any external will work. I even used my 30GB iPod.

There is no limit on the ps3 i think...If there is one you can not go higher than a couple of terabyte from what i've heard
