PS3 hard drive files - PS3 NEWS

hey all..

i found a way to get files off the ps3 hard. i dont really know these files as some are ".SÂŸ files and .EIU" etc. i will put up a attachment pic 2 show them. does anyone know what they are ??

Well first off, how did you manage to even access them? Windows should not be able to read the PS3's HDD at all!

i know windows cant access the hard drive, so i thought i would use a program to search for the files and thats how i access that information.

i tried to Google the file type's but im not getting any success with it.

so are these the files what is needed to get closer to cracking the ps3?

Alas no, another member tried something quite similar, but any file recovery program skews the results. That data is legitimate, but its all out of order, and its all still encrypted!

But keep up the hunt!

has there been any close attempts to get into the hard drive or we still have no idea to get into it ?

He means invalidates it, in other words makes it bad data.

From what I've seen on the PS3 TEST units (via this site), the file names are similar to those on a PSP.

I don't think any Windows file recovery software would be capable of really discovering any files on a PS3 hard drive. There's the encryption of course and also what I presume would be a proprietary format.

My guess is the software assumed the drive was FAT32, read a bogus FAT table, and then presented the results as files available for recovery. If it did a full scan of the drive, then maybe it just looks for blocks of nulls to determine EOF.

I dumped my PS3 Hard drive to my computer. I was looking through all the hex and ascii data... saw some weird stuff...There was descriptions of a CD/DVD burner software, Card Game and Bittorrent software. There were a lot of descriptions of different software.

I thought maybe someone would know why these description are on a PS3 Harddrive. Code for .plist extraction and compiling . Its using a python program has some sstuff about MAC OSX for the .plist program.. saw some info about ubuntu on there 2.. Just curious of why this stuff is on a PS3 Harddrive?

first, is the hd the drive that was shipped with the ps3?

if yes, it is likely that you installed linux on your ps3 (ubuntu), and the linux-part is not scrambled. ALL DATA that is saved from within the GameOS will be scrambled, so the data you got nothing.

if no, another reason is that you used the hd in your pc and after inserted into the ps3 you simply did the quickformat. that only cleans table of contents and the data is still there, but will not be seen by the gameos. many recovery apps are able to restore this data, but it has nothing to do with the ps3/gameos

i might be wrong, but i think its nothing
