Blu-Ray Movies on PS3 w/o the Disc!

I did some more testing, you are actually able to convert he M2TS file in 1 single step using only Elecard Xmuxer Pro

Again only works on Mpeg2 Blu-ray

Open Xmuxer Pro, Drag M2TS into the Remux secion, click double arrow, click output chose MPEG Program Stream, then click Start. Thats all.

To make it more compatible, and usable for xbox 360 streaming, chose only 1 audio file before clicking start. to make it usable on ps3, you will need to chop it into < 4GB parts
you will still not get AC-3 audio in the XMB with any posted solutions.

Preliminary tests only, Your Mileage may Vary.

Very knowledgeable, I read the three of your posts. It was quite an interesting read, you saved me from wasting my ratio downloading HD-DVD rips. :P Now, since I use Netflix I'm interested in backing up rented Blu-Ray discs and storing them on a hard drive for access via my PS3. Maybe with a future firmware update, Sony will allow Bitstream Output through the video XMB menu.

Most new blu-ray movies use vc1 too right?

yes VC1 or AVC most new blu-ray movies. Since bluray has larger capacity they can still use mpeg2 at higher bitrates so the push hasn't been as great as with HD-DVD

I had read of someone using procoder2, (it has a really high bandwidth HD profile) and after trying it, kinda gave up as it looked like it would take way long to re-encode

is that the XMB does not support Dolby Digital 5.1 when PS3 still has a long way to mature before it comes close to. this does suck, but the possibility of playing hidef content off an external drive has some real appeal... have also experimented with success of taking this mpeg2 streams and making an HD-DVD on a normal dvd.

Split using VideoRedo or any Mpeg 2 cutter joiner software.. When you use raw splitsoftware it will not re-write the apprioriate required mpeg header for the other files.. Only the first one has the mpg header.

good to hear, again...this works for just about ANY dvd .iso....

now check this link out for when you get your yellow dog linux installed and functional..it is a bit heavy, but the potential for using it instead of the XMB for hidef media is pretty nice

The video splitters won't work right something goes wrong with the audio, that why I use VLC in the steps after I do a raw splitter.

Yes, but would require booting into linux or running it over the PS3. That will be a definite solution when we get the UDF 2.5 support though.

Also someone said that they couldn't play the decrypted video in linux, but VLC does work on the PS3 linux and in combination with UDF 2.5 patch all steps can be made on the PS3 itself.

This is what I noticed for Talladega Nights:
Blu-Ray Bit Rates -
Audio - 640 kbs CONSTANT
Video - 15 MBs - 28 MBs VARIABLE

MPEG Bit Rates -
Audio - 634 -655 kbs VARIABLE
Video - 15 MBs - 28 MBs VARIABLE

The filesizes are most basically the same off by 300MB's or so the difference should be minimal. The audio must continues to be 5.1 then since dropping 3 channels would change it by GB's. (You will not get 5.1 on the PS3 unless from 1.11 to 1.52 there was some sort of update for it)

I am, by far, not an expert in this field though, and I could very well be wrong.
