Best way to transfer data to HD - PS3 NEWS

I just purchased a used 20gb on ebay (wanted the Emotion Engine chip).. anyways, i also picked up a 320gb drive! I saw pics/videos on the upgrade process, seems too easy, but i was wondering whats the best way to transfer all my videos to the drive?

I used to have a modded xbox with xbmc, but i wanted to upgrade, the ps3 seemed best for the blu-ray, dvd upscalling, and I feel i can get more out of it than a xbox 360!

Anyways, i found this program (www.vilvic.com), but wanted to know if i could use an ftp client or something similar!!

The easier and faster away to transfer movies from your PC is using an external USB 2.0 HDD or PSP connected through USB or USB flash drive.

Other alternative methods are:

- Burn the movies to CD/DVD DATA or DVD VIDEO, then copy the movies to the PS3 HDD.
- TVersity is an excellent option to stream/copy movies from your PC to the PS3
- Also you can setup an HTTP server and download the movies from the PC using the PS3's Internet browser.

- The CF3B5's PS3 Proxy Server GUI is another method to transfer data (demos, movies, music) from your PC to your PS3

I think the fastest way to transfer large files (4GB+) is using vilvic media centre using a router with ethernet all hooked up (dont try this with wireless or you'll be waiting for days to transfer

). This is how i transferred all my DVD movies from my laptop to the ps3 and works a treat. If they are under 4GB then i would suggest using a external hard drive.

I say TVersity or some other uPnP client is the way to go, unless you have to be off your network, then I would copy it to a usb hard drive.

This happens b/c the videos and the tv do not have the same resolution. I just click triangle (/\) then change the window size, zoom,etc.

You could try File Servers created for PC~PS3 transfers, such as Red Kawa.

TVersity can also stream so you don't have to copy everything to your new Ps3 HDD. Its a pain to set up properly (plenty of guides on google) and won't play some file types buts its the best I've found to use with the ps3. If you want to stream HD content make sure you are using a wired connection. If not HD content chugs, at least for me anyway.

No.. all this is going to work however, its not too "New" user friendly. SO i'd recommend to just go ahead and plug in an Externall HDD tot he ps3. Do a multiple copy to the external. And then on replacing the HDD. do a multiple copy back.

Works like a charm.
