Just wondering, is it possible to make a back up of all your game saves and everything directly to your new hard drive, or would you have to use a flash drive or something?

Yea but the samsung spinpoint m6 is a 500GB 2.5" laptop drive so it fits nicely inside your ps3 rather than wires hanging out the back with a 3.5£ attached to it.

yes you should be able to, get an external Hard drive, go to settings -> system settings -> backup
there make a backup onto the External HDD (will also backup games, videos etc)

then go install new HDD, then restore backup.

hi guys, I'm having some problems here.

I tried hooking up a 750gb external hdd using the method in the first post with some minor differences (i used hd xt and am using an external enclosure with an eSATA port, and also an esata to sata cable).

The ps3 formats the drive in 20 seconds and upon restart, it doesn't do anything. The wave background stays on forever. Can anyone help me with what's going on, cuz i wasted alot of money on that drive

What things CAN'T be backed on on external drive with the backup utility? Does it only backup vids, music, pictures, and save files? Will it back up things like rockband songs? It'd be annoying do re-download every downloaded game...

Hey guys i intend to change the 40GB HDD to a 160GB HDD when i'm buying my PS3 on GTA 4 launch.

I think 160Gigs are enough for my needs... but is it possible to install 2 HDD's in the PS3?
Because otherwise i'd have no use for the unused 40Gig drive ^^

So far there is no easy way I know of to have 2 internal drives on the PS3. Why not buy an external case for the 40gb and put it to good use?
