ok so in summary i believe this is where we are

if you have a low firmware, 1.3ish give or take, using hackITandC's patented method, you can play games above what you should be able to, using rfom - this is a great firmware expliot.

now on the other hand there are mixed reports of people claiming this does region bypass too (for ps3 games) however there is a debate that there is NO region protection of PS3 games, so then these claims are untrue - however some people have mentioned that they can now play games, from a different region, that they couldn't before, but i believe this is because the 2nd game requires a higher firmware, so we're back to hackITandC's original firmware bypass, but not region bypass, that would only apply to ps2 - read that again - ps2 - games - if anyone has news on that please let me know

keep up the good work guys!

We're also having at the moment a bit unclear results regarding the 1.70 fw... Reading back through the thread it seems that there is one confirmed working (JAP) and one NOT working (PAL).

Can please some more owners of 1.70 consoles test this and report back so we can establish if it's PAL / JAP difference or simply an "user error" ... ?

Thanks. Also - I believe it would be beneficial to investigate a bit more regarding the game saves - can everyone double check that:

1. You can save the game booted using one of the exploits (RFOM / F1 / Full Auto 2 / Any other ...)
2. You can LOAD the game save next time the game was booted using the same exploit method.
3. You can still access saves of the "exploit" game used to boot the other game.

why are u pressing the ps button?. What procedure are you using step for step and have you removed the online update from xmb.

Guys, you will only relay know if it works on the 1.70 machines WHEN new firmware comes out. ie if the disc needs v2.00 fw then you can try on your 1.70 machine and see what the results are.

It's my mistake,I forget to delete RFOM game data utility.

Now it works on my machine
-PS3 JAP FW 1.7
-RFOM JAP (deleted game data utility) swap to Virtua Tennis3 US work perfectly. the saving or loading saved data work fine.

PS.No response from PS button--->I did it after I got the Black Screen.

Yes and ... NO. Because indeed the first step is to test if it will allow the swap trick at all and only then to see if it will run games with higher fw requested.

BUT - the same way like with PSP 2.00 version there might be some additional routines included in the new fw actually required by game to run and / or decrypt so it might still not work ...

The region lock exists for SDTV users it seems. I'll paste them as below:
Quote:
2 of the games/demos downloaded from PSN EU is not working on NTSC console hooked to SDTV. The games are Tekken and GTHD. However these titles work great on HDTV setup. I assumed that other demos/titles on PSN EU store are multicoded with PAL and NTSC and HD. In SDTV mode, the console will force-output its console native signal (NTSC), but in HDTV mode, the NTSC/PAL restriction is not an issue anymore. As we know that some PSN contents are affected with this limitation, I wonder if this problem also affect disc-based titles? I know that Sony already stated PS3 games are region-free, but are they region-free for HDTV only or including SDTV as well?

These are what I believe happened (for PSN & PS3 content, not movie DVDs & PS1 & PS2 games): The contents are either coded in:

1) NTSC-SD and HD
2) PAL-SD and HD
3) NTSC-SD and PAL-SD and HD

*some contents are NTSC-less/PAL-less but also in SD, and this is not a concern

Case a:
NTSC console + HDTV + Multicoded contents (NTSC+PAL+HD coded)
The console will try to output in HD mode to HDTV = titles worked

Case b:
NTSC console + SDTV + Multicoded contents (same as above)
The console will output NTSC-SD content only = titles worked

Case c:
NTSC console + SDTV + PAL-coded contents (PAL-SD and HD)
The console will refuse to play the PAL-SD content [ "This game is not supported. (80028F10)" ]

#All of the above are purely based on my observation/conjecture, and I might be wrong. Please correct if you feel there is anything wrong

So anyone here can confirm which EU/PAL PS3 disc-based games worked with NTSC consoles in SDTV setup? This might save someone that import consoles and play locally-released titles from buying a non-working disc title. Gamestores here do not accept opened games for return. I hope this post can collate and compile list of working games on SDTV.

------------------------------------------
List of unaffected titles:
------------------------------------------

1) Def Jam: ICON (PAL)
2) MotorStorm (PAL)
3) Resistance: Fall of Man (PAL)
4) Virtua Fighter 5 (PAL)
5) Virtua Tennis 3 (PAL)

-----------------------------------------
List of affected disc-based titles:
-----------------------------------------

1) Call of Duty 3 (PAL)
2) F.E.A.R (PAL)
3) NBA2K7 (PAL)

There will definilty be more security ESPECIALLY as they are letting us get back to the xmb (maybe they wont now :-oops we will know when it comes out. but where there is a will there is a way! :smilew

There is a few ways fony can get around it BUT it will not be practical for them. they could block it in an update, but if we dont update then it wont effect us! I dont think their hardware can secure this hole (due to the way it works), and if they are clever enough to stop it then they will open up a new bug due to the ps3 hardware limitations!!

We'll see what happens ;-)
