Confused possible routing bd-drive signals through a pc ?

hi,

this is my first post... my idea for grabbing bd-drive-data by using a pc.

solder the ps3 br-drive , only the data-lines (16), to the ide-controler 1

and solder the data-lines of the ide-controler 2 to the ps3 mainboard br-drive data lines

a simple "loop-in" into the br-drive-ps3 data lines with a pc.

then we need a programm, who manage this "transparent grabber", the direction of data-flow and so on.

or we using a pci-i/o card with enough ports (24 ports - 110.-euro)
for listening "on the bus".

sorry for my disastrous english, i am german

greets

That sounds like an awfully lot to go through just to get the br data hehe. However I don't see why this won't work to grab stuff off the disc. Although maybe what you might want to aim for is the stuff that gets unencrypted to the ps3 and not just stuff that's incoming from br. Would you elaborate a little more on what kind of data you want to capture? I'd like to hear more about this.

LoL, yeah. But at this point... extreme is necessary as long as the ps3 survives. Think this idea should be posted in the dev "lets hack the ps3" thread. I am gonna post a couple this idea gave me as well

perhaps, you can grab the authentification data of each game-disc, store this data in a modchip, copy the game...the modship send the auth data to the ps3 , perhaps the copy will run...

you can use a modchip as an sony br-drive emulator...modchip with network and a small linux ... gameimage by nfs or smb server

or you can get some keys , decrypt-key for the br-drive firmware , a way for flashing cfw ?

I was thinking of trying something along these lines with the hard drive as well. Find a way to setup a middle man to capture data transfer between the hard drive and the PS3.

I had a few ideas scribbled down but work is keeping me from experimenting.

Good Luck.

this sound like a great idea... the devs could try that, putting a "listener" between the ps3 and some component like the hdd which is more known. I think that this could be done.

Hell, if you're willing to solder in areas that could potentially render your system useless; then you might as well skip the date i/o peripherals and go straight for the cell processor itself. Who knows, maybe doing so would reveal decrypted opcodes.

Where is the -rep button?

Careful documentation and careful soldering can mean easy return to the normal state of the components. One has to wonder how mod chips come about in the first place because this seems like it would be similar. Soldering peripherals is better is it not?

To be honest, you can essentially skip the soldering to the PS3's bdvd board - grab a ~60 pin FFC cable (if i recall) and a connector for it.

BD -> FFC - >Connector -> Your own Board

So, all of the soldering can be done on a cheap, throwaway, PCB!

Help me understand where you are going with this. Is this effort simply to enable the playing of pirated PS3 games through the BD-R? It was my understanding that information on PS3 BD-R's were encrypted anyway. Wouldn't we want to listen to a bus that contains the unencrypted data rather than one that has the encrypted data from the BD-R?

Edit: Have there been any JTAG's or other mass production programmable interfaces located on the BD-R/logic board?
