It's been a while, doesn't seem to me that anything much has happened though... Catch you soon. RPS. |

These days the PS3 Devs here have a private channel they mingle in, but no public channel at the moment as the Staff (and others) use the chatbox to communicate with one another. If there was enough demand we could re-open #ps3news, but speaking only for myself I can barely keep the site/forums up-to-date in my freetime... so definitely no time to start IRCing in a channel full of people needing help or bugging @ps for non-existant PS3 hack updates. ![]() Which brings up another concern of mine: Is there really much to chat about in a PS3 IRC channel? I mean, the Devs like to keep their work private so until something gets posted those areas are off-limits... and all the PS3 iSO releases don't run on retail consoles so aside from occasional "live help" (which our chatbox accomplishes somewhat) I am not convinced an IRC channel would be used much. Finally, if you (or others) would like to get one going again then start a thread either HERE or HERE and I will Sticky and link to it so that all who wish to get involved can group up and organize it. Then we will add a plug-in to the site to allow for the channel and so on... but just be aware I don't think myself or CJPC will ever be there due to a lack of time/interest. I would rather help someone on the site where my time invested can be converted to content re-read by hundreds of people in months to come.

I understand completely ![]() Right now I want to earn the title of PS3 Dev (Not for the vanity; oh yes, I know the epicness this title would bestow upon me); Unfortunately homebrew can not be readily developed, tested, or executed on a PS3 system. I'm unfamiliar with the specific hardware within the PS3 (Besides the obvious facts that it has a power pc architecture cell processor, and etc), however I do have a general knowledge of logic design (I have created an elementary processor using the Neumann architecture in logic works) and I am pretty learned in most object oriented programming languages (I currently know Java, ActionScript 3, and PHP). How could I be of use to the PS3 development scene? |

As for perks of the title: Those in the "PS3 Dev" class can access the IRC channel, see less ads and don't have to make posts to download files. That being said, how to put your background to use for the PS3 development scene is a good question... as you mentioned without a Debug PS3 homebrew options are limited. One thing I can tell you about some of the older PS3 Devs here is they spent a LOT of time reading through the $DK documentation (start here, if you haven't already: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4293607/PS3_SDK_KIT_1.6) to familiarize themselves with the hardware. Many of them specialize in one area of expertise but share common knowledge. It's GREAT that you are ready and willing to lend a hand when the time calls, but until you see something specific you'd like to jump in on reading is probably the way to go. A few months ago the Devs were seeking someone with a lot of experience in shaders, for example, so if you possessed that skill then your time to shine would have been then and so on.
