Showtime Repack v3.1.213 (Unofficial Build) for PS3 is Released
Following up on his previous updates, today PlayStation 3 homebrew developer Redsquirrel87 has now updated the PS3 Media Player to Showtime Repack v3.1.213 with the changes detailed below as always:
I was wondering about that option. Should I turn it on if it already isn't?
this option will force the use of "hw-accelaration" (don't know how to tell) for files which normally aren't supported cause of their level. forcing this unfortunatly caused problems with some other files. so now you can choose if want this or not. just turn it on try your file again, i have it turned on all the time.
Showtime PS3 v3.1.228 with Multichannel Audio Output Arrives
Today PlayStation 3 homebrew developer Andreas Oman has officially updated Showtime PS3 Media Player to version 3.1.228, which now includes multichannel audio output on the PlayStation 3 console.
To quote: Another release. This build adds support for multichannel audio output on PS3 (AC-3, DTS and 8 channel linear PCM). Note that due to how the PS3 audio frameworks applications can not output raw digital bitstreams.
So Showtime still needs to decode the audio and than the PS3 will reencode the audio in the best available encoding mode the user has selected (or don't do any encoding at all if 8 channel PCM is available)
Still this is a major step compared to having just 2 channel stereo.
For all you who roll your own builds of Showtime, please note that you need latest version of my PSL1GHT fork for Showtime to build.
I've also fixed a major memory leak that manifested itself when rendering fonts with outline (which is default for subtitles). So if you watched a movie with subtitles the memory would drain and Showtime would eventually crash.
Another thing is the increase of packet buffer to 40MB in conjunction with some adjustments to socket buffers, etc. This should hopefully make streaming over lousy wireless connections better.
This build has video playback broken. I tried some MKVs I had that worked perfectly fine until updating. Now I get audio but no video at all.
I even tried deleting the application and reinstalling the pkg but same issue. This is on my Kmeaw 3.55
Avoid installing this build.
UPDATE: The playback issue does not happen on all formats. It seems to only be an issue with a few videos I have. However, they did work fine on previous versions so I have contacted the developer about the issue and I'm giving him all the information I can, so hopefully it will be fixed soon in a later build.
If you have playback issues just revert back to a previous build for now.
