Sure. Everyone wants to grab a piece of a cake while it is still hot.
I am starting to think they are just saying it to stop people thinking its BS.
Very possible however I haven't heard THAT many people saying they're getting one. I only know of me, CJPC, and another member here whose name escapes me... sorry.
Its not like it costs a lot to manufacture these so even if they give away 100 of them I doubt they'll take that big of a financial hit. If they are legit then those people posting videos and testimonials about it will generate more sales then anything else can.

Exactly correct, if the clones work just like the original and are less than half the price most people will opt for a clone to save money... and as you mentioned, giving away some freebies is a great way to spead the word to the masses and get low-cost promotion for them.
