Does anyone know what the following opcode is ?

    ROM:0000183C .byte 0
    ROM:0000183D .byte 0
    ROM:0000183E .byte 2
    ROM:0000183F .byte 0

It seems to be the last instruction in a lot of interrupt vectors? Is it something simillar to retfi ?

There are other opcodes that IDA doesnt decode. I tried using the plugin that xorloser made but I can't tell if its working Is there a document somewhere with all opcodes that IDA doesn't handle ?

i think i found some stuff in the dump. i've been reading up on understanding hex files while looking through the dump because i don't know much about reading hex files. if this is of no help, i'll stop posting what i find until i know more about hex files.

first, it seems that there still is 2 ethernet ports on the main board:

next, it looks like sony has some kind of device which connects through a pci port for debug purposes:

then a part about the game os loader:

i guess the bank is where they keep the keys:

from what i know about c++, it looks like they create a bank_manager object and call the functions 'get_repository_value(m_type = %d)' and 'setup(%d)' from a bank class definition.

and then presumably functions to facilitate checking the update data to verify whether it is valid or not:

there are more commands in the blank space in the last code box, i left it out so as to not make this post too long. especially since i don't know if any of it helps. at least give me some credit for trying.

p.s. if anyone knows any good links to sites that help with understanding hex files, i'm listening.

As GeoHot suggested, add your findings to this [Register or Login to view links]. So the ps2dev one will not get cluttered. I've added most of the ones from here already, but feel free to add.

I suppose we can give it a try and see what happens... it's now linked on the main Forum page (pictured below) for better accessibility.

found a few more things to post before bed:

and what i think are some names of coders:
    leeJone
    akbuaJve

search for them as strings in the hex file and you will find them a few times each.
