Lightbulb Middle man hack for BD drive

    Sponsored Links
    Hi there:
I am trying to develop a middle man hack for PS3 BD drive.
I was in the team developed the DVDROM hack of 360. I am trying to develop a similar solution or maybe not that similar solution for PS3. But here I got some questions after I collect all the data via internet and here in PS3news.

    1. The BD Drive pinout: There is one and only one available PS3 BD drive pin-out which is v0.1 made by GodzIvan. I readed it myself and it's basically match my guess in most part. But some signal assignments are not matched with the termination resistance found on PS3 mother board. So my question is, has anyone every confirmed this pin-out is 100% correct? if not, what's the correct pin-out?

    2. The data bus on the ATA channel of BD drive: Per RPC's comment in one of his post, the data bus is not encrypted. So this implies two things: a. RPC must has the correct pin-out, so he can capture and realize the ATA protocol on the bus. b. The DATA captured by RPC proved that the DATA bus is not encrypted.

If we have the correct pin out, and the databus is not encrypted, then a middle man solution could possibly be developed to bypass the BD drive and redirect the BD access to anywhere we want. Anyone has further comment or input please kindly send it to me. I have a highend logic analyzer and a probing solution is developed already for PS3 BD drive ATA bus probing.

    Good luck to you!

I asked this to one of the PS3 Devs on IRC tonight, and they basically said to put your Logic Analyzer to use (versus being an "arm chair" Dev ) but YES it is straight ATA and 100% to answer you.

If you do some work on your own and can demonstrate it here, they said they would be willing to chat with you further of course.

thanks a lot for the timely response. Actually I already got some data logs via my LA and probing card made by myself. But it really surprises me that the pin out made by GodzIvan is 100% correct because that some terminal resistance on the PS3 MB don't match the ATA spec.. On the other hand, I tried to match the pin-out by matching the terminal resistance found on PS3 MB, but the end result doesn't make any sense. So I will give GodzIvan's pin out a try. Anyway, I will try to analyze the data logged by my LA and raised up further questions once I have any further result.

I don't suppose you can get The Specialist interested too. I thoroughly enjoyed reading in each day on the original thread on xboxhacker, would love to see something similar start up.

well, actually we never contact each other again after the announcement on Youtube of the world's first xbox 360 hack. And I rarely go to xboxhacker site after that event.

There are actually more factors you have to think about if you want to modify or even get the firmware from the drive decrypted.
Did you kept yourself up to date in terms of the different 360 drives? Especially the later LiteOn drives that also contained encrypted FW's ?
Or do you think you are prepared for such tasks?

Anyway... I want to talk to you, please contact me via eMail (the contact function in this board)

    Thanks,

    iCEQB

Thanks a lot, iCEQB.. but to get and/or decrypt the BD firmware is not my purpose in this case. The middle man solution is to intercept/emulate the BD drive with other device. please check your email.
