Lightbulb Methology to Run PSN and PS1 Game Backups on 3.56+ Firmware

    Sponsored Links
Now this is no way a true hack but more of a minor flaw and some file tampering. I take no credit as this is just dumb luck.

Tested on official firmware 3.56, there is a possibility that it works with higher firmware revisions. Out of the games I tried only Afro Samurai worked; thus, game compatibility is very low and is dependent on many factors. For this to work you need 2 ps3s one with official firmware and one with custom firmware.

First (Afro Samurai) backup running on 3.56 (Save function disabled)

    Requirements:

    1. ps3 OFW 3.56
    2. ps3 CFW 3.55
    3. Afro Samurai demo
    4. Afro samurai Full game backup (acquired from the original bluray game disk)
    5. Multiman or a file manager
    6. Network cable

    Instructions:
    1. Install Afro Samurai Demo
2.using a file manager such as Multiman go into Afro Samurai backup directory (should be similar to /dev_hdd0/games/Bleus30264/PS3_GAME/USRDIR)
    3. navigate to Afro Samurai demo directory (should be /dev_hdd0/game/NPUB90215/USERDIR)
    4. Copy the following file and folders from the full game to the demo within the userdir directory "Common" and "ps3.psarc" (make sure you leave the original eboot of the demo and the "ps3" directory untouched)
    >Thus far you have just converted a demo into a full game that can be launched from the xmb and played, it will be the full game but without trophies or game saves (eboot signature remains untouched as does the param.sfo)

    5. Turn off both ps3s and connect a network cable directly to both ps3s
*warning this will erase all data on the ps3 3.56+*
    6. Turn on both ps3s
    7. On the 3.55CFW navigate to System Settings> Data Transfer Utility (select transfer data from this system to the other ps3 system)
    8. On the 3.56+ OFW navigate to System Settings> Data Transfer Utility (select transfer data from the other PS3 system to this system)
    9. Once the process completes you will be able to launch Afro Samurai full game from the system 3.56 (it will say demo as the title but it will be the full game)

Second run PSN PS1 cracked games on 3.56+

All PSN PS1 games that I have tried have worked successfully. Final Fantasy VII is used as an example.

    Requirements:
    1. ps3 OFW 3.56
    2. ps3 CFW 3.55
    3. Final Fantasy VII original pkg (b0bdL9opU6JAsIxUpi29By0uOWU1QJKXG6yNkJjqodIjSmd6w BrIbYtulcL177SAAAojsvNii9pVFABkvguumKCFUGefIjRWRtB j0.pkg)
    4. Final Fantasy VII FIX pkg (use google)
    6. Network cable

    Instructions:
    1. Install Final Fantasy VII pkg
    2. Install Final Fantasy VII FIX pkg
*You have now installed a working ps1 game that you can launch from the XMB on the ps3 3.55 CFW
    3. Turn off both ps3s and connect a network cable directly to both ps3s
*warning this will erase all data on the ps3 3.56+*
    4. Turn on both ps3s
    5. On the 3.55CFW navigate to System Settings> Data Transfer Utility (select transfer data from this system to the other ps3 system)
    6. On the 3.56+ OFW navigate to System Settings> Data Transfer Utility (select transfer data from the other PS3 system to this system)
    7. Once the process completes you will be able to launch Afro Samurai full game from the system 3.56 (it will say demo as the title but it will be the full game)

The theory part, if you tried to launch modified or self packaged eboots then they will not launch on a 3.56+ console since the keys for eboots have changed. I do not know exactly how .self files are packaged; in theory if a demo boots up a .self file and we replace it with (filemanager.self from multiman) we might be able to boot it, if an error occurs (because of signature) we could try to boot ps1emu.self and if that works copied ps1 games would be playable via 3.56+ OFW.

Furthermore, what was tested on the game Afro Samurai may work for other games, for those willing to try it make a compatibility list. In conclusion, this is my small and possibly final contribution after years of munching off of the internet knowledge for ps3/ps2 exploits.

I left this here for the moment and +Rep for sharing the idea with the community znmike. If anything develops further from it we can always move or promote it as necessary, etc.
