Ive been using the SimpleDNS method for quite a while now but for whatever reason, as with a few other people in this forum, i cant get it to work anymore. Im using a 1.50 AUS PS3 and despite spending ages trying to get these proxy methods to wrk, i cant. I can get onto the web with the browser but cant sign in to PSN. Ive also messed around with the redirect that goes in ps3update-list.txt, trying to mirror some of the parts of the Australian Server;
Code:
http://fau01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/list/au/ps3-updatelist.txt
but to no avail. If someone with an AUS 1.50 could post the exact methods they are using to get online i would appreciate it or just someone who can shed some light on this i would be grateful.

Cheers,
VendeTTa

is your copy of simple dns expired? if so search and youll find a registry edit to get you another 14 days of trial time. if not i suggest the ps3 proxy program it is so simple to use that is should win a award or something.

No. Ive already done the regestry edits, but im not using Simple DNS now anyway. The PS3.proxyserver way seems simple enough, and i get an internet connection, but still get prompted with update required.

So far i have added all the lines to my hosts file, made a ps3-updatelist.txt with the US PS3News redirect, and then substituted this file for the ps3-updatelist.txt file in ps3proxy. Lastly, i have put the proxy setting in on the ps3, following this guide by mintor, here, to a tee. But still; no dice.

Keeping in mind im in Australia, do i need to change the substitute the ps3-updatelist.txt with:
Code:
http://fau01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/list/us/ps3-updatelist.txt
Do i also need to change the ps3-updatelist.txt to reflect Australia as well? As in change the ps3-updatelist to
Code:
# AU/NZ
Dest=89;ImageVersion=00000000;SystemSoftwareVersion=0.00;CDN=http://www.ps3news.com/;CDN_Timeout=30;
Please can someone clear this up and maybe provide a solution?

TIA, VendeTTa

are you seeing activity in the log of ps3proxy or are you using the one by 3r1c? it is the easyest it has all the files in it already you just need to add redirects. if your getting activity in the log i dunno. if your not getting activity in the log its a setup problem on your end ,firewal or something blocking it or your not set up right.

You may have to do that. Although I can't say for sure, since I'm using the US update list. Also, be sure to setup your PS3's DNS settings to your default router's IP, ex. 192.168.1.1. And then you also want to make sure that you enter your computer's IP address in the Proxy settings on the PS3 with port 8080 open. That should solve your problem.

Ive got my ports open, and have also tried using a port other than 8080. I tried using my routers IP as the DNS on the PS3, but still no luck.

Quote:
are you seeing activity in the log of ps3proxy or are you using the one by 3r1c?
Im first using the one by Cf3b5, putting my routers IP in the box, ticking ps3 mode, adding the redirect in the replace files tab, starting the app, then also starting 3r1c's ps3proxy after that as per what that guide says to do.
Are you saying its possible to just use 3r1c's version?

Yes i am seeing activity in the log of Cf3b5's version. The log says
Code:
 [3/05/2007 5:50:20 PM] http://dau01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/au/2007_0419_468238974943b45c09aeb632853401f2/PS3UPDAT.PUP
[3/05/2007 5:50:20 PM] http://fau01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/list/au/ps3-updatelist.txt
The only thing that i guess could be a problem is that when i put in my routers IP in cf3b5's version and press start, i get an unhandled exception error: value cannot be null. I continue through this and it seems to run fine, but i dont know...I dont get this error when i put in the IP of the computer the app is running on.

Also, could someone explain the relevence of using 3r1c's ps3proxy after starting up cf3b5's version?

This is getting me so angry, im close to updating. Please if someone can help, it would be great.

hey vendettaa - here are my thoughts - it might help as i'm in Aus too

first it's all done through the Cf3B's version - all i use. now you said you are putting your ip's router in the box? that's wrong - it needs your computers ip - so i thought - lets take it from the top

The Duffguide to version bypass - specifically for Aussies!!!

1, in Cf3B's ps3proxy - first tab - enter your computer's ip - for me - 192.168.1.15 (left the port or Prot as it says : 8080
2, tick ps3 mode
3, click start
4, ok enter this address in the first replace spot in the replace files tab (on the left)
Code:
http://fau01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/list/au/ps3-updatelist.txt
5, then create your own ps3-updatelist.txt
6, put this in it
Code:
# AU/NZ
Dest=89;ImageVersion=00000000;SystemSoftwareVersion=1.6000;CDN=http://dau01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/au/2007_0419_468238974943b45c09aeb632853401f2/PS3UPDAT.PUP;CDN_Timeout=30;
PLEASE NOTE - change the system software version to whatever number firmware you actually have - as you can see mine is 1.6000 - or version 1.6 for short - if you don't know what you have then check in the ps3's system section of the xmb - i'm sure it's in there somewhere - and then for good measure add Zeros so it's the same length (sorry i can't confirm it you need to do that but mine works as shown above)

now put that file in the right hand side of Cf3B's program, next to the previous link

7, ok in the ps3 settings put all the network stuff the way you normally would for it to work properly and THEN add a proxy server - using your computer's ip - the same you put in Cf3B's program - and leave port 8080
8, skip the test
9, launch the psn store and you should be set!!
10, you can add or hot swap any links to download files while in the store

anyway i hope this helps, feel free to fire any questions but i *think* it's every step you need... at times like this this, Duffman asks, what would Jesus do?

For the Australians having trouble I have a way for this to work for you - and without Simple DNS either! Now I've posted links to this a few times now but seeing that my fellow aussies are stubborn heres the permalink to the thread where I have the guide:

Yes, thanks mintor, but as i said above i am already using this guide. Im thinking that it must be a problem with the program. I found elsewhere that to make sure ps3.proxy.gui was running on port 8080, i needed to type netstat in command prompt, and sure enough, it doesnt list the port as active.

Ive already reinstalled netframework 1.1, but i still end up with the error when starting the app. Just to recap on whats happening; i set up everything as outlined in your guide, but putting my routers IP into the ip box gives me an unhandled exception error- value cannot be null. This doesnt happen however, when i put in the ip of the pc that the server is running on.

Just for the record, my router is a Netgear DG834G with a default IP of 192.168.0.1, which gives me out the error. When using 192.168.0.2, the app works fine but im guessing using the router ip is an integral part of your method as im getting nothing. I have also tried changing my routers IP to 192.168.0.5, but didnt get anywhere, still resulting in the error.

Please Mintor, or anyone, if you could help me out in any way, i would appreciate it.

Hmm VendeTTaa thats weird I did a search on 'unhandled exception error: value cannot be null' and most of the results seem to be ASP related which as far as I know are UNrelated to this problem. And anything else is way over my head as I'm not a computer boffin.

As for your other questions further up regarding changing the files to reflect Australia don't bother - just use what I gave in the tutorial.
