Hax0rz beware: The Xbox 360 will be tough to defeat

Here we have quite an interview about the Xbox360 that was given in Europe at the Game Developers Conference. Specifically, Andre Vrignaud, member of the Xbox Platform Strategy Group, lectured to game developers about how many of the new features of Microsoft's Xbox 360 next-generation console would interface with their games.

Near the end though, it was questions from the audience time, someone brought up the subject of mod chips and this is when Andre may have thrown down the guantlet to the hacking community.

    Conclusion:

When ending the talk, Vrignaud also took a couple of questions from the audience on esoteric topics, revealing that, though the Xbox 360 has a virtual keyboard, it does also support USB keyboards. More interestingly, a question from an audience member on the security for Xbox 360 in terms of 'mod chips' and other devices that modify for imported/illegal content prompted a reply that Microsoft took 2 and a half years on security this time round, whereas the Xbox only had around a year. Vrignaud prompted: "Never say never", but he thinks it's going to be a long time before the Xbox 360 gets modded.

    This is very interesting indeed:

You'd figure that they would learn their lesson on next gen console piracy protection, that being said nothing is full-proof.

Well look what a tough cookie the DVD was cracked up to be (pun deffinatly intended). There were apps there were 1 click wonders, and it made it just that easy. And their little region locking can be bypassed via any number of hacked firmwares for todays PC drives and most modchips have firmwares that also make DVD playback region free. As hard as they work on build up these walls of security, someone else works even harder to bring them down.

It's quite a bit different now. Anti-consumer security is big business now. Originally it was just companies like Macrovision sticking it to the consumer, now the MPAA and friends have their own security (Digital Rights Managment) R&D departments just scheming ways to limit what we do with their end product. The next MS OS (and Xbox 360 [and PS3]) will be littered with this DRM stuff. And this isn't even touching on what kind of mind boggling security the new HD disks will have on them...

I'm not saying this next round will be unbeatable, but make no mistake: It will take time and some brilliant minds to defeat these upcomming ones. :x

Were talking about more then just the 360 here, but next gen protection as a whole

    EDIT:

Just found this, makes for a cloudy future if you ask me....

Basically they will know if you mess with the Blu-Ray or HD hardware.

I was kinda going broad there, but yes, I was referring to the grand scheme of things with that...

If man made it, man can unmake it... Just a matter of time, it will get done regardless of what anyone can do.

    Thumbs Up

I`m sure it won`t be too long before the x-box is being modded after it`s release,as somebody will find a way.
