Well, if you have a retail unit then no, you can not install a Development/Debug firmware on it.

There is a way, ok installing it on using the normal way on a retail, yeah that doesnt work, but using either the HD swap method or the Clone hard drive method it works... all im asking is what are the advantages and disadvantages of using Debug firmware, like what can it do that the retail firmwares dont allow us to do ? e.g play Backups?

Believe it or not, that is covered here like 1,000 times already. So many, that it's not even worth me investing the time finding links to them all. Just spend a few hours reading ALL of the Debug posts in this section, and you will have a good understanding of it.

In short though, using Xvista's HDD swap method only allows you to install Debug Firmware on a Retail PS3 to view the non-functional menu options. Without an actual Debug console, there is no advantage to having Debug Firmware on the unit (such as playing back-ups, etc)... in actuality it removes the ability to play Blu-ray movies so it's worse.

On that, I suppose I will close this thread as we all invest far too much time here to keep repeating the same information over and over to people who don't (are too lazy to) read old threads.
