The 2.20 Debug FW is available? Does it mean that I could do the Swaptrick (greetings to XVISTAMAN2005) on my 2.17 RetailFW PS3? Or closed Sony the Holy hole ?

i dont think the hole is closed, or i would not have been able to update from 2.15 but the swap trick is a little different from the last one.. you will get an error trying to install it, but after a reboot it should install but not 100% sure.

for those who just has 1 HDD ... you can use it to install the debug firmware

first format it with PS3 then do the usual , let the debug update extract the file and turn off the PS3.
take out the HDD and do a HDD backup with any backup software (ie norton ghost).

format again the HDD with PS3 ... and update with retail firmware until you see the confirm (OK button to update) , then take out the HDD (while the PS3 is on and ready to update) and restore the image you created earlier, then put back the HDD in the PS3 and continue updating .... then you have a Debug firmware installed.

For that kind of work I recommend X-Way software's WinHEX instead. Norton Ghost is specific for PC formats. Winhex can do RAW dumps and it also has a lot of tools for diff, compare and other operations great for forensics and study (which is what we would do with the data anyway... lol)

Winhex make 1:1 dumps as it's a forensics tool.

Hello,

I have a little question about this with the debug installation; I have a ps3 with 2.35 firmware, will I ever be able to install the debug firmware, what have to happen before I (and all the others who have 2.35) can install the debug firmware.

If sony release a new firmware like "2.40" could I install the debug. Or do I have to have a higher debug firmware to? What can Sony do to prevent this? (can they do anything?)

I hope you understand me,

Have a nice day/night.

Thanks
