If your 320hdd is ntfs and you already got all your games on it (i use :\GAMEZ\ as folder on usb) and don't want to format again then you can make multiman reads your ntfs-hdd. But with this mehtod i NEED to copy the games to internall hdd. you canNOT play from external if NTFS.
So if you got enough internal space then edit the USB.CFG (with notepad or similar) to match your VID & PID of your hdd and copy the file on via usb-stick onto your ps3-internal-hdd in this location:
/dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608/USDIR/USB.CFG
To get into filemanager-mode in multiman just hold select and press start
sorry no idea, i dont get any of the problems others report, only thing i can think of is cos 98% of my games are backed up from discs.
i've got one game i dont know where its come from, cos its not one of mine (killzone 3) it must have been on the ps3 when i bought it and ive copied it to ext during a backup ? and the other game is one ive downloaded cos misses wanted it for christmas, and at £46 to buy , i want to make sure shes gonna play it before i buy it (LBP Karting).
i already wasted £60 on resident evil operation raccoon and shes never played it , so that's never happening again.

ok guys, its works! now i have to format my hdd to fat 32 and try from there. i forgot the disc in drive, so its why i got black screen. read the info G Sus gave to me earlier
is it easy to upgrade HDD in ps3? have 40gb but maybe i can use my 320gb. many thanks... specially to G Sus for patience
it is easy to replace the drive. however its pretty simple and safe in 3.55 your in rogero 4.30 and its probably not that straight forward. (or advisable to do it from 3.55 )
your probably better off just keeping the 40gig for a while and use an external (fat32 format) for your games
