Hi guys, i've been given a 40gb phat ps3 off a friend who didn't want it any more as it will not load any blu ray films or games!
He told me he bought a new drive off ebay and swapped them over and tossed his old one out with out swapping the drive boards!! I've got to the stage that its now got 3.55 cfw and MM 2.0 on it but when i got to start MM it locks up and has to be switched off at the back to unlock it!
You should be able to remarry the br drive, but you will need to downgrade to a lower firmware to do it, look for some threads on here about downgrading as with a fat you will lose the ability to play br movies unless you backup certain files from flash, it may be that mm needs a br disc in the drive and that is what's causing it to freeze, once you remarry the drive i think you wont have any problems.
Ok, today i set about downgrading to 3.41 from 3.55 Kmeaw, i can get my ps3 into Factory mode but it wont run the downgrade file from my usb stick?
Can you downgrade from 3.55 Kmeaw? I've downgraded before so i've got all the files and stuff to do it, i was gonna downgrade to 3.41 then 3.15 and try to remarry my BR drive to my ps3!
I just did a remarry this week. I was also going from 3.55 KMEAW. What I ended up doing:
1) 3.55 KMEAW->3.41 OFW (Modified version) -> 3.15 OFW
2) Entered factory mode.
3) Did the remarry. Did not see a success or fail message, system just turned off. Restart in Service mode, popped in bluray and it worked.
5) Exited Factory Mode. Tested bluray with a game, and it worked.
6) Then upgraded to 3.55 OFW. Did a full format and upgraded to 3.65 (Was a friends machine and he wanted PSN).
Everything works perfectly. NOTE: I have the NON 256MB Fat version.
I followed the PDF guide in the article that Ni72ous posted. Including the section on downgrading from 3.55. You have to use a special modified 3.41 PUP to downgrade from 3.55.
