just tried patching socom II. got online fine but before i entered the game it says a cheat device was detected and i was banned. any ideas?

You can`t play Socom 2 online with a backup. your only way to play socom 2 online is to buy the game.

Is it just DNAS that stops you from playing socom 2 backups online?
Edit : Threadstarter, it seems to have let you play the backup fine online it's just that you tried using a gameshark or whatever with it.

No, there is an update from the server that d/l's a file to MC when you get on the server that will render a copy useless. The file that is put on MC can't be replicated or edited. So, you will be SOL with a copy.

Okay, this should bear little/no effect on any other game though right, if it's just a change to this paticular game? For copying other games I mean.

Ok, I am a PRO at cheating and making copies with Socom2. I am one of 3 people that can currently use cheat codes in the US Server.

Let me clear up some facts. This is The only game currently that is IMPOSSIBLE to play a copy online. They do some memory writes with the updates, scanning for anything that could be a cheat device. The problem is, when they install the updates, it makes a new dnas id, but the copied game tried to force ITS DNAS id. They system sees this error, and bans the game. Really, there is no way around it at this time.

I heard a while ago that this doesn't happen with the PAL version, is this true??
