Advice!

30 AWG is very good for that installation... 15 AWG (from my experience) is bount to be a problem as teh wire is really thin! Use thicker wires for GND and VCC.

How did the install with the solid core go? I would expect it to be extremely difficult due to inflexibility and tiny solder points.
I did my work with 15 on the signal and 20 on the Vcc and Gnd.

Is it necessary to use thicker wires for the GND and VCC?
if i were to use 30 AWG for the whole chip, would there be a problem?

Those wires need to pass a higher current through them so using a smaller wire you run the risk of it over heating and possibly not being able to pass enough current. Use the bigger wire. If you don't have any in sight pull something old apart eg crappy speakers or something and raid the wire from that.

Or you can just double up the 30 awg wire for those two points and it should work just fine also.
