Playing game images via network adapter WITHOUT a hdd

I just recently got one of those slimline PS2's.

What I want to know is, is there a program like HD Advance/USB Extreme out there, that loads images via the network adapter from a PC that you set up as a server with disc images? This would be a lot faster then the USB 1.1 connection on a slimline PS2.

Is there anything out there like that?

There is, but it's not publically released unfortunately. For now, your options are only to use an external HDD... either USB or the product I linked in the General Discussion area for ya.

Network should be significantly faster then USB 1.1. For example, playing games with an USB HDD gives choppy FMV, but in the meantime using that Mediaplayer for the PS2 gives just fine playback with movies over the network.

So in theory (as it would seem to me) this would be a perfectly workable solution. And I'd rather have a NAS with ISO's of games then having to format a whole harddisk in some proprietary format.

@PS3News.COM: Is there a name for this product or is it secret? Why has it not been released? Is it still in beta testing or do the makers just want to reserve this for the 'l33t' inner circle?

It has a few names, but for the sake of this message we'll refer to it as the "SB". It isn't actually a product, it's just a PC and PS2 side application that was coded internally by licensed $ony dev'ers to eliminate the need for purchasing costly DEBUG consoles to test their builds on. They aren't allowed to use mod-chipped consoles (for obvious reasons) so that is why this application was created. As for the "l33t inner circles" they have had several revisions of this (complete with source code) for some time, however, nobody has actually cleaned it up and released it publically... the cool part though is that it works on the Slimline PSTwo as well as PS2 both via Ethernet from PC. Anyway, for now it's 'vaporware' to almost everyone here so I guess we shouldn't consider it an option unless it ever gets released. I do have some pics of it though in action, as well as of the client image files (showing the files/dir structure in iSO Buster).

Primarily because (from above) it was "coded internally by licensed $ony dev'ers" but who knows, one day it may slip out so we can only hope.

Would be curious to see the screenshots. Also, it seems like this tool would basically eliminate modchips, swap discs, etc, so I can see why people are not releasing it This seems like just the tool I have been looking for too - I dont want to solder, I dont want to swap, I am lazy

Well you'd still have to modchip though.. No way Sony is going to rubberstamp an official release of a tool like that.

The screenshots aren't anything too special, and of course they had to be 'doctored' up and resized to conceal any potentially sensitive information. They are attached below with each name describing what is actually in the picture. Also, for v1-11 PS2 units you can run the PS2-side software via the Independence Exploit so you are correct, no chip or Swap Disc is necessary. For PSTwo v12+ units you will need a mod-chip or Swap Magic CD to launch it on the PS2-side though. Finally, no... I wouldn't hold your breath for such a thing to be released anytime soon. I believe I also have a few pics of the RAR files with the binary and sources if you'd like to see what they look like too, but that would be about all I can share on it based on what I've seen.
