HDD Size ???

hey all, guys, i have a little question...........yesterday, i installed a hard drive in my ps2......although everything ran smoothly, i have this question...its a Seagate 80GB hard drive...........now, when i put it in the ps2, and run hdadvance, after formatting, i get the following stats:


Total Size : 74GB
Free Space: 71GB


what is the meaning of this.....i heard of 2GB being used up by the ps2 file system.............but isnt 9GB a bit too much ???

You think that bad. I've installed 300 gig maxtor and it tells me that I only have 279 gig free. Now where the did the 21 gig go? Oh yeah, I have DMS4 EZI pro and using Toxic OS.

300 GB (in terms of a HDD, optical disc, or most any form of data storage) = 300 billion bytes = 300,000,000,000 bytes

300,000,000,000 bytes ÷ 1,024 = 292,968,750 KiB
292,968,750 KiB ÷ 1,024 = 286,102.29 MiB
286,102.29 MiB ÷ 1,024 = 279.40 GiB

The other 21 GB you are referring to doesn't exist. HDD packages report sizes in decimal gigabytes (1 gigabyte = 1 billion bytes), while computers report their size in hexadecimal gigabytes (1 gigabyte = 1,024 megabytes = 1,073,741,824 bytes). This is the exact same confusion that has caused people so much grief trying to put 4.7 GiB files onto their 4.7 GB (4.37 GiB) DVDs.

P.S.: ToxicOS is stored in the 2 MiB flash memory on the DMS4 Pro (E.Z.I.) chip itself.
