Exploit Install Help

Okay, so here's me, with egg on my face, asking for help. I've searched for my answers before hand, but since the site was revamped, I think most of the posts I need are gone. Anyway...

I set up the MC Exploit on my v4 PS2 about a year ago. Got it to work then, and all was good with the word. I haven't touched it since, other than to run HDA from it, and occasionally ExecFTP. Since then, I've moved, and I chenged wireless routers, so now I can't connect to my PS2 (since the Gateway address is different). So I figured I'd have to reburn a new exploit CD with a corrected Configdat file and just reinstall it. Yeah. I've tried compiling a new Exploit image 5 times so far, and all I wind up with is coasters.

I found a copy of CocoRice's tutorial for idiots on my comp and followed it, but I think I'm screwing up the burn process. When I go to install the exploit, I boot up my SwapMagic CD, then swap out for the burned disc, press X, and wait. All that happens is my PS2 revs up like a Suzuki and the image red-borders.

I burned the CD images using Alcohol 120, DAO/SAO. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I know it's a very n00b question, but I just don't remember. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

I had the same problem, just dump a >= 20MB dummy file first, and then the rest of the files.

Then the exploit cd runs

I still don't have a working memcard exploit, it just boots my original PSX game, and nothing happens

I had a 10MB dummy file on there, but I put it on the disk last. Maybe tonight I'll try a larger file and put it on first. But I don't know if that's it.

And if you've gotten the exploit CD to run, but it's not working, you might have to redo your title.db file. It's probably got the wrong disc ID. It's not triggering for your PSX game.

Are you using the same type of media?

Yeah, Fignutz, I'm using the same package of TDK CD-r's. I'm on my last couple of disks of the same 100 CD spindle that I used for the first Exploit CD-R I made. But you bring up a good point. I'll try to burn the CD again tonight on different brand media and see if that's the problem.

In the meantime, let me ask: how do you guys burn your exploit CD-R's, and how do you load them. I know it sounds like a hella n00b question, but I ask only to compare with my method and try to find out where I'm screwing up. I'm burning the image with Alcohol 120 from the .cue file created by CDGen. I use the DAO/SAO, Write setting, and set the disc to burn at the slowest speed (8x for me on my NEC 3520). Forty-four seconds go by and *!poof!* I have a perfectly good coaster.

if you use cdloader it will boot.no settings neccessary. i had that same problem.hope this works for you.

Try burning at raw/DAO

you should have atleast 100MB dummy or it might not do what you want.

Actually, I wound up bailing on the whole Exploit CD method. I got frustrated wasting CD-r's. Instead, I created an ExecFTP .iSO file and installed it on my HD using HDL_Dump, then ran it using my pressed HDAdvance DVD. Once the FTP server was running, I used an FTP app to log into the PS2 and transfer all the exploit files and folders. It worked swimmingly. i don't think I'll burn exploit cd's again.
