Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance Rip Chat - PS3 NEWS

I have a 2 Disc DVD5 full rip of this game that actually freezes near the end when Solidus is choking Raiden. I believe its a Echelon release. I went ahead and made a third disc that I use just to play the end of the story mode that has the missing demo.dat or something like that. Anyway, I was wondering if its possible to downsample the video to this game so you could fit the whole game on 1 DVD5?

I will be receiving a retail Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance soon and I also would like to know if it's possible to rip the game down to DVD5. I read at Swap Magic Fix that I should come here for help on this game so here I am

. If anyone could help us out it would be great.

Sideshow: I have the same problem, I use swap magic and the game freezes when Solidus is choking Raiden. Exactly how did you rebuild the image, is some files missing? Hope you can help!

It appears that Disc 1 is missing Demo2.dat which is a must file thats needed to complete the story mode. The problem is that Demo2.dat is too big of a file to fit on Disc 1. For me, the Skateboarding only works on Disc 1 yet the NFO states that it works on both Disc 1 and 2. If you could dummy the skateboarding folder then maybe there would be enough room to fit Demo2.dat on Disc 1. The Echelon release is all screwed up. I wish there were a better NTSC release that had the whole game on 2 Discs or better yet 1 Disc with downsampled movies.

Even if I dummy the skate folder there still is a couple hundred megs to little space... any idea if there is some other file that you could dummy at that point in the game? pretty annoying when you almost finished the game.

Its a possibility that Demo.dat is not needed on Disc1. I am trying to find out more information about this theory. If Metal Gear Solid Sons of Liberty fit onto 1 DVD5 then it should be possible to fit Substance on 1 DVD5. I dont think the Substance version of the main story has anything extra to it compared to Sons of Liberty.

Well I dummied demo.dat and replaced it with demo2.dat, I'm currently fighting Solidus, hopefully the game wont freeze anymore, apparently they must have added something to the files compared to the original. What a mess.

Looking at the file structure of disc 1, DEMO.dat is 1.4GIGs. I dont think you should dummy that file, it looks important. Let me show you what files appear to be dummied on my 1.5 Disc that I use to play after Solidus Chokes Raiden near the end:

MGS2 folder MOVIE,STAGE2,VOX2.
Skate folder

The TOC is 3.8 GIGs.

I can assure you that I have tested this and it works all the way through the end but I have ONLY used it for that purpose so I'm sure if you tried playing the game from beginning to the end with this disc then it will probably not work.

Well it worked all the way through the end, i suppose that demo.dat is used for all in-game movies up until Solidus is choking Raiden, then it switches to demo2.dat. Did the original have demo theater and boss survival? perhaps that explains the difference in size.

Thats a good question, I dont know. I read a review and it said that the Snake Missions, VR Missions, and Skateboarding are the only new additions. I know also that I tried using a save file of MGS2 Sons of Liberty to play with Substance and its incompatible.
