Guy Game Rip Help!

I have tried several time to get this game to work, but each time the game stops at Episode 9.

I used the winhex technique where I used the Guy Game 7.51 image and split the game into a 4.3GB image. This actually compressed the image and when you use Apache 2.0 to extract the image you get 7.51 GB of files. Then I opened the 4.3 image and copyed the slus, maindata, and iop files onto my PC's harddrive to patch the slus and iop with the pff patches. Then I used dvd scan on the maindata file. After that I updated these files using Apache 2.0 and then I used dvd decrypter to burn it. When I booted the game the Paradox screen came up and I pressed the circle button for NTSC, but the game still stops at the Big G screen when trying to access Episode 9.

I also tried shortbusjonnie's rip guide, but still no success.

I am guessing that all the dvd-9 check were not removed, so I was hoping a Super Computer Genius could figure out how to take all the DVD-9 checks off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Of course your game is freezing at episode 9. You chopped off all the later episodes' files from the second layer of the disc. Once the Site Utilities section is back online, there are PPF patches you may use to remove the DVD-9 media checks. Use these PPF patches with shortbusjonnie's method of creating a 2-DVD backup of The Guy Game.

Has this method worked 100% throughout the entire game? Because I tried shortbusjonnie's method and it did not work past episode 9. Also, how come when you excract the image from the winhex split that all the files are intact? I am using a version 9 ps2 with a dms3 moddchip, could this be the problem?

I take back my last two posts. It turns out that the Winhex mehtods does not compress the image b/c when you try to extract the second layer with Apache 2.0 and use the .pss extracter to view the videos, there are not videos. Shortbusjonnies method finally worked b/c the pff patches finaly worked instead of giving me an error response.

I was able to play all the epsiodes, but after you complete Episode 20 you can't save because the game tries to play a video off the mainvideo file which cannot fit on the second disc, which causes the game to idle there.

Jak, glad to hear you were able to (mostly) get the 2 DVD method to work. I'm not sure what's giving you the issue with the game playing that last video. When I did it, I believe it just skipped it, much like it did with other files that were in the Mainvideo file. I'm not 100% certain, though. I haven't played my backup in a while.

If you wanted to get crazy, you could create yet another disc with the maindata and mainvideo files, then cut out all the other episode except the last 2 or 3. That would keep all the end credit videos on the same disc, and you'd be able to save the game following completion of episode 20. But, then again, that's making another game disc, and I don't think that's the result you want.

I'll check out my discs to see if I did anything special to make that work. Don't think so.

Anyway, good luck, and glad it worked so far.

Actually, that's what I was working on just a bit ago! I figure a third disc is still worth it since three DVD-R discs still cost less than one DVD+R DL disc. I've attached the ISOBuster/Apache2 filelists for each of the discs if you all want to play with it. Just remember to use the patched versions (The Guy Game (USA) DVD9Check PPF Patches) of the SLUS_210.74 and IOPRP.IMG files on your backups.

Tre cool, JC! And you're right, 3 DVD-R's cost what, a total of a dollar(US)? Much cheaper. Nice job!

Thanks for the info about the third disc, unfortunately I am satisfied with the performance of my backup (since I beat the 20th episode), so I won't make a third disc.

What is shortbusjonnie's method? Could someone explain this method to me? My cousin has been asking me on how to make a back up of The Guy Game since it came out. If any one can help me, my perverted cousin would much appreciated it.

I believe they will freeze because you didn't appy the two pff patches that paradox released a while back. And dvd scan does not work on dvd-9 games because the checks are custom.
