Since it still reads cds you only have to set the dvd pot but mark the position of it first in case it doesn`t help, once you have the ps2 cover and dvd-rom cover off, power up ps2 and open tray and then turn power off again, this way it`s easy to work in the drive, before you try adjusting any pot, there is a white cog wheel in the middle at the back of the drive, this can be adjusted but mark it`s position also with a marker, this cog wheel raises and lowers the sled were your laser assembly sits on,turn this cog with tray open and turn it to you see the sled drop down which it will be at it`s lowest point, then just turn this cog wheel in either clockwise or anti-clockwise direction about 4 to 5 clicks at one time and then try loading your media and see if any inprovement has occured if not then just turn another 4 to 5 clicks and try again,do this procedure until you find the best loading position.
NOTE each time you try loading media to test it you must put the dvd-rom cover back on so that the disc stays in place, you don`t have to put the 4 little screws in the cover everytime you test just make sure in is sitting down in position and not sticking up at one corner, then once you are done setting then you can put the 4 little screws back in,but if you are going to do a laser setting then leave this cover off for the time being,i find this is the easiest but a little slower procedure for setting the pots, the pic supplied will be a overhead view of the dvd drive,on with dvd-rom cover off and tray open you will see two metal rails the only one you have to take the screw out of is the right rail toward the back of the drive which holds the rail down, once screw is taking out lift laser and rail together up slowly because the laser has a ribbon cable attached to it.
Then just slide the rail out of the laser and carefully flip it over and do your adjustment but a very little at one time and the put rail back through the laser and set rail and laser in place as you will see that the height screw just rides on top of the left rail and that`s how it sits, then put screw back in to hold the rail and laser in place and just set the dvd-rom cover on as descibed earlier and try loading the media,in your case you said dvd`s weren`t loading then just adjust the dvd pot only and for cd`s you would adjust the cd pot only. Then once done put everything back to together.Hope this will help you a little.
