It appears Sony's recent PS3 Netflix conquest was in the cards after all...

Today Siliconera.com (linked above) have uncovered a http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-adv.html&r=1&p=1&f=G&l=50&d=PG01&S1=%22sony+computer+entertainment%22&OS=%22sony+computer+entertainment%22&RS=%22sony+computer+entertainment%22 by Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. for a Mystery Science Theater 3000 style interactive TV.

To quote: "They recently filed a patent that mixes Netflix Party on Xbox Live and Mystery Science Theater 3000. The document actually mentions Mystery Science Theater 3000 as inspiration for the invention in the background section.

This proposed program puts an overlay on top of a "media presentation" like a TV show or movie and allows players to interact with it while the presentation is playing.

Sony mentions other applications like a Where's Waldo style game where you can hunt for characters and sponsorships like giving players Coca-Cola cans to lob instead of tomatoes."
