Joost Labs launched a version of its Web TV service for the PlayStation 3 recently, making it accessible on your television set via the game console.
Well, making some of http://www.joost.com/'s content accessible on your PS3. Studios and networks are all for putting their content online, but they don’t want it to be an end-run around traditional TV operators.
This attitude resulted in the official removal of Hulu from Boxee, and when Hulu recently released its desktop app, it expressly forbid running it on anything other than a PC.
To quote: The PS3 offers more than just games and Blu-ray movies: it is also an excellent online media center. Online video service Joost has recently introduced their PS3 interface, which is yet another good addition to the PS3 media experience.
Joost was created by
Niklas Zennström and
Janus Friis, who founded Skype and Kazaa. Joost features only professional videos: music videos, tv series, movies, sports, news and more.
Joost's partners include CBS, Viacom (including Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon), Sony Pictures Television and the Warner Bros. Television Group.
