US Air Force Wants 300 40gb PS3s
It looks like the United States Air Force needs some heavy research machinery at a low cost. Who do they turn to? The PlayStation 3, 300 of them to be exact.
The Air Force Research Laboratory is conducting a technology assessment of certain cell processors.
The processors in the Sony PlayStation 3 are the only brand on the market that utilizes the specific cell processor characteristics needed for this program at an acceptable cost.
At this moment it is only a Request for Proposal, in which sellers will provide price quotes to the Air Force.
PlayStation 3 News
cool, ps3 was most definitely ahead of its time when launched, same goes for psp, now we are seeing what is really possible with these machines.
FLight simulation??? Lots of apps could be geared to run on this damn powerhouse.. I could think of a lot of interesting application when tied together, as well on a cheaper platform to run Linux on that could save some of my tax dollars... well, nice thought, but sure that they would just spend the money saved on other items to hit their run rate on spending.
Soon enough PS3 might become a Governamental Training Simulator .
Pretty much a guess.
Yeah, recommended HW by IBM itself, check this out: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/power/library/pa-linuxps3-1/
