Even if one is remotely interested in 3D gaming, would this update only be compatible with $ony Bravias? If the laptop compatibility is anything to go by, you might HAVE TO purchase a $ony 3D tv to have the any/all 3D capabilities produced by the PS3. Does anyone know if this function is limited to $ony 3D tv's only?
They are using the HDMI1.4 standard for the 3D so any 3d enabled tv will work. of course they are not going to say buy a samsung or a lg tv to use the 3d in the SONY playstation 3 games.
As far as i know the tv does the IR synching not the ps3. the ps3 will generate a 120hz output (input for the tv) will recognize the 3d state and the refresh rate and sync the glasses.
And before anyone jumps the gun. Yes I am aware that the ps3 is not hdmi1.4 compliant. meaning it does not have the 100mbps ethernet inside the hdmi plug.
i saw the 3d pack for pain, cheered and grabbed it. the only modes that had the 3d symbol were mime toss and clown toss.
grabbed my red and blue glasses, loaded one up, nothing no 3d effect no double lines with out the glasses on.
so i tried a pair of glasses from the cinema 3d (tinted things) nothing no 3d effect whatso ever..
seems unless you have £2500 spare you cant have 3d sony!
I got a free voucher for Pain when I bought my PS3. So I've had the game for quite some time. I also have a 65" dlp hdtv that's 3D capable.
I set my tv to 3D mode. I loaded up Pain (after downloading the update, and the free 3D packs from the store). When I go into the levels, nothing has changed! The screen looks like it always does. I'm not sure if there's an option we have to select to force it into 3D?
I also downloaded the Super Stardust HD demo, thinking that maybe there would be something in there that would give the option, and nothing.
Has anyone gotten the 3D to work? And if so, was it automatic or did it give an extra option somewhere to use it? It would really suck if you could only use the "latest" tv's for 3D.
for question, if there is a custom firmware in near future.. do you think it is possible to hack the 3d system that it works on 3d beamer (120hz) or similiar systems and not only works on sony 3d tvs?
Yes, you can. That is why I posed the question which pin is IR sync on. You would just make a circuit that read the sync, and an IC that controlled an IR led at that sync. A quick look with a video camera at any 3D TV would show you the IR sync. The only complication comes if the PS3 requires the TV to tell it it is 3D, if that were the case you would have to mimic that signal. You're sure to see hacks coming out for any TV that support 120hz. It is technically even possible on 60, but not high quality.
For those that can't see 3d on their 3d tv. Do you need to reset the ps3 video settings? (either via the settings or press and hold the power button). I assume the latest firmware has some additional smarts to recognise the new mode.
