PSP hit the scene about three years ago and while it's been evolving into quite a useful handheld, it hasn't quite taken off like Sony would have liked.
But that doesn't mean that it's dying and SCEA Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller insists that sales have been "red hot" in 2008.
PlayStation 3 has also had a healthy rebound this year and Sony plans to integrate the two more as time goes by.
"I think as we go forward, we're going to see a lot more integration with PlayStation 3, particularly as the install base of the PS3 continues to grow stratospherically in many ways, and the integration that is going to occur there is part and parcel of the strategy that the console is the living room hub and really where your entertainment flows," he told IGN.
"Then, your PSP is your digital living room on the go, and being able to access your PS3 in a wide variety of ways is really a key part of our overall branding strategy. That's going to be something that you're going to see expanded on in future firmware updates and other things."
It's still early days, there will definitly be some good games, people are still getting to grips with it all, once studios have a few games under there belts than the classic games will start to come out, I mean it's already starting to happen in my opinion, but just wait.
If you wanted a system with really good classic games why did you buy the system in the early days? I personally bought it for all the multimedia functions that are available.
Now all we need is to be able to remote play all of our ps2 games while on the go.. its nice to see that the scene has opened emulation as that is what i look forward to... when programmers are capable of unleashing the full capabilities they will continue to award us for our dedication to this system... we need sony to get a license for our favorite games ie capcom and streetfighter games... or at least allow third party companies to create ports that will run like swapmagic.
I'd like to see the PSP used as an additional feature in games - non essential but helpful. Example:
GTA - I'd love to connect the PSP to the PS3 while in game and display the map on the PSP, making it easy to spot and track other players & quickly adding way points. all via the PSP while playing GTA... i really wanna be a game devloper.
^Same could applyed for Burnout Paradise, speaking of which if you have played it the PSP could display all the online commands while hosting a game. making it quicker to set challenges at a glance. etc etc
I can think of so many, maybe even displaying the XMB while in game?
