Sony PS3 System Software Update v4.30 Incoming, Details Arrive

Sony Sony Network Entertainment VP Eric Lempel has announced today that PS3 System Software Update v4.30 is incoming tomorrow with details below!

To quote: Next Tuesday, October 23rd, we will be releasing a new system software update for PlayStation 3 (version 4.30). With this update we have made several changes to how Trophies are displayed on your PlayStation 3.

The Trophy Collection will now reside under PlayStation Network on the XMB. Trophies that you have earned playing PlayStation Vita games are now displayed on your PlayStation 3. You will also be able to see your Trophy level and progress towards the next level while viewing your trophy collection.

By the beginning of November 2012, we will retire the services available through the Life with PlayStation application. In conjunction with its retirement, we will stop offering the Life with PlayStation application to new users with the 4.30 update.

This includes the conclusion of our participation with Stanford University's Folding@home, a distributed computing project aimed at understanding protein folding, misfolding and studying the causes of a variety of diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's as well as various cancers.

We'd like to thank the more than 15 million users that have participated in the program since it started on PS3 in 2007. PS3 users have donated in total more than 100 million computation hours to the Folding@home project to date, and as a result, contributing greatly to Stanford University's Alzheimer 's disease research.

Considering the contribution PS3 has made to the project, we decided to retire it as a result of discussions with Stanford University.

Vijay Pande, Folding@home research lead at Stanford University, had this to say about your contributions:

"The PS3 system was a game changer for Folding@home, as it opened the door for new methods and new processors, eventually also leading to the use of GPUs. We have had numerous successes in recent years.

Specifically, in a paper just published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, we report on tests of predictions from earlier Folding@home simulations, and how these predictions have led to a new strategy to fight Alzheimer’s disease.

The next steps, now underway at Stanford, are to take this lead compound and help push it towards a viable drug. It’s too early to report on our preliminary results there, but I’m very excited that the directions set out in this paper do appear to be bearing fruit in terms of a viable drug (not just a drug candidate)."

Update: PS3 Firmware 4.30 is now live, and below are the lv0.self / lv0.elf for 4.30 from Jericho417 and also a [Register or Login to view links] 4.26 lv0 extracted appldr then unselfed by TechnoDon followed by the 4.30 appldr ELF decrypted from lv0 by nathan_r32_69.

From zadow28: same keys for ofw 4.30, guess cfw 4.30 is coming

Download: [Register or Login to view links] / [Register or Login to view links] (by zadow28) / [Register or Login to view links] by xxmcvapourxx / [Register or Login to view links] / [Register or Login to view links] / [Register or Login to view links] by zadow28 / [Register or Login to view links] / [Register or Login to view links] by tjhooker73 and danixleet / [Register or Login to view links] from SammyG0080

From pounou: That contain lv0-and encapsulated loaders CEX 4.30 with inside appldr.elf + isoldr.elf + lv0-430.elf + lv2ldr.elf. I can see one thing different, the size of the lv2ldr.elf is 98 ko before i patch with kakaroto script and after 425 ko !

From PatrickBatman: Got these out of appldr430.elf (might be named with wrong firmware but there 3.65-4.20 app-pub keys - actually the NPDRM key)

    From opoisso893:

    • 3.40-3.42 (rev 0x05)
    • 3.50 (rev 0x07)

In appldr430 we have all the pub keys and Ctype keys :

Now we need to find the erk and the riv key.

About damn time they added the Vita trophy support. It makes you wonder why it took 8 months after the release of the Vita to do it!

Also, the removal of Folding@home is odd. Was there an exploit in there? Was Stanford paying for the use of our PS3s and now no longer interested in doing so? I'd really like to hear the full story.

As they are retiring F@H doesn't mean we want to lose the weather and news that Life With PlayStation has.

OH, so this is the next thing to get removed from the PS3. They never stop removing features.

Last thing was the good PSN Store. The new store is crap. I can't find where the new section is as it no longer exists. Or its hidden somewhere. It used to be a section by itself, east to find, 2nd from the top. It was top until that stupid PS+ came along and started ripping everyone off that paid for it.

using the GPU's processing power is far more efficient than using the PS3's CPU power. Heck with the latest CUDA videocards today, probably 40x faster for protein calculation than using the PS3's processing power.

But yeah, it's time to end the F@H on PS3, but they did add something useless, the Vita Trophies. I dont know what the heck is doing that on the PS3. If possible I want PS3 trophies and Vita trophies viewed in different way.

    Lightbulb

Just a quick tip guys, if you can... remember to use FatH instead of F@H because the @ will send your reply to the moderation queue which may take hours to become visible due to spammers using the @ symbol in e-mail addys.

hey folks Anyone here know how to get the new platform passphrase?

I think wireshark and ofw 4.30 are not enough, are they? Or is decrypting the packet the main problem?

    Cheers
    Blade
