November 3, 2006 - We finally received a PlayStation 3 here in the San Francisco IGN offices. After swooning over the box's contents and touching the system to see how easy it is to leave fingerprints (and believe us, it is), we immediately headed back to our PC and plugged the SIXAXIS controller into our system to see if it works as a PC controller.
And it does. Sort of.
Actually, not really.
Our Windows XP system immediately recognized the controller and automatically set it up. The pad shows up in the Game Controllers properties under the Control Panel just fine, and it appears that it's being charged. The problem is that our PC doesn't recognize inputs from the controller. Everything looks to be perfectly fine, but none of the buttons or sticks provide any input. We attempted to perform the manual calibration, but again, the system wouldn't recognize.
Alas, we'll likely have to wait for someone to release a driver. For now, we'll just have to stick with playing PlayStation 3 games with the SIXAXIS.
