Rockstar Games and Sony on L.A. Noire and PS3's Overheating

Shortly following the PS3 Firmware 3.61 update, reports came in that users running L.A. Noire may be causing PS3 consoles to be http://support.rockstargames.com/entries/20127883-ps3s-shutting-themselves-off-while-playing-l-a-noire.

Today Senior Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media Patrick Seybold has addressed concerns on the issue below with an official statement on behalf of Sony and Rockstar Games, as follows:

We have received a very small number of customer support questions about PS3s overheating or shutting down while playing L.A. Noire. At this time, Rockstar Games and Sony can confirm that neither L.A. Noire or firmware update 3.61 are causing the PS3 hardware to overheat.

We are both committed to working hard to find solutions to this and any issues that may arise. If you are experiencing any issues with L.A. Noire or your PS3 hardware, please contact technical support using any of the means provided below:

Na it's just Sony not taking blame once again and planning to overheat out of Warranty PS3's to make up for lost revenue while PSN was down. Sony will charge you good money for repair.

Well not really apparently there really is a problem with the game, it's even happening on some 360s too. It doesn't actually cause the PS3 to overheat though just crash and shutdown.

The hardware is designed and tested to run continuously at 100% load, so given the manufacturing process was good, no software can cause overheating.

mines kept freezing but it wasn't just LA NOIR it was mw2 as well and black ops after the update.

1. no consumer hardware is made to run at a continuous 100% load.

2. what are your sources of the information regarding the design and testing of the ps3?

3. software controls the cooling system in the ps3. therefore software can cause overheating.

how would game software affect system software? does it alter it some way or does the game use too much of the ps3s resources in running it.. thus not leaving enough for the system software to work.. if true then this is bad.. maybe the ps3 is simply outdated?
